Dads Two (2) PICC line cover designs. First image is from the pattern provided by MeasureTwiceCutOnce, and the second one was my own design based of the wrap he was given from the hospital.
When my dad first got the PICC line put in, we found that the floppy tube part that was sticking out got in the way.....a lot. It got caught on his shirt, and tended to just be irritating. We got some loose wrap from the hospital, which seemed to work, but looked very bland and medical, as most things from the hospital do.

We decided to give dad something a little more fancy. Something to help him feel more comfortable, while also protecting his PICC Line, and making his arm look more fashionable. We found a material design he liked and had it made and shipped to us!
Since he is a big computer nerd, I mean guy, we decided on this motherboard kind of design, which he fell in love with.

I decided to try two different designs. The first design I did was a little smaller than the other design, and I more or less just copied the design of the wrap he had already been using.
It was a pretty simple design. Just a long strip that I sewed the side and the ends over. Dad really liked this design, and found it pretty comfortable. He decided to wear it while I sewed up the other design, so he could compare. He said this design was tight enough to hold everything, but wasn't cutting off any circulation and was very comfortable. While dad tested this design, I got working on the design from Measure Twice, Cut Once. It was a free pattern with very easy to follow instructions. If you want to see it and try it for yourself, you can click the button at the top of this post! It was a super easy to follow pattern, and I actually had a lot of fun working on this little project!
The design was a few centremetres longer than mine, but dad seemed to prefer this design. It allowed for extra movement, and didn't bunch up at his elbow. Dad wore this to the escape room when he cracked his head open, and it held up well during that whole ordeal. He has worn it multiple times when we have gone out, and doesn't even notice it is there half the time. I think its safe to say that this project is a success. A huge thank you to Measure Twice, Cut Once for their free pattern. It really helped me out, especially as someone who is new to sewing. I definately recommend checking out their website.
